Our script reading policy for plays for BBC radio has changed over the years according to the way in which the BBC commissions its radio drama output. At present we are unable to consider unsolicited scripts EXCEPT from writers with a track record in broadcast drama, though we do also consider material submitted via genuine literary agents.
Writers seeking production of their first radio play would probably be best off approaching the BBC Writer’s Room or one of the drama producers employed in-house at the BBC, as they are able to commission more new material than most independent companies.
If you are a new writer who’s tried all these avenues and still feel you have a burning idea that must be realised, you may email a request for us to consider it. However, the pressure of material we receive means that we may simply reply with a “not for us, thanks” and, should we agree to consider a script, we may only be prepared to provide a comment on a portion of the MS.
We do fully understand the importance to a writer of his or her work, but I’m afraid we simply don’t have the resources to provide a full script reading service.
